Books on Character for the 7 Habits of Happy Kids #LIM

This year my school, along with others in the district, are fully integrating The Leader in Me process for character education and building up our kids to be leaders. The Leader in Me revolves around 7 Habits, they are:

  1. Be Proactive
  2. Begin with the End in Mind
  3. Put First Things First
  4. Think Win-Win
  5. Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
  6. Synergize
  7. Sharpen The Saw

Using Books to Teach the 7 Habits

I believe the kids are completely capable of understanding the 7 Habits and that they do not need to be “watered down,” but discussed in a context that they can connect with and understand (among other ways for identifying/practicing the habits). Conversations with my kids about the components of the 7 Habits come after I read a book to them or they listen to a read aloud. It takes some time to find books, but I know I’m not the only one who has character education books in mind nor the only one integrating Leader in Me. I created a Google Form to share with others, so they can contribute to a book list and help with developing some discussion questions. I’m including the response spreadsheet so you have access to the book list as well. If you have some books you would like to share, your contribution would be appreciated! Throughout the year I will be adding books to this list.
